• What Does 1 MWh Actually Power?
One Megawatt-hour (1 MWh) is equal to 1,000 Kilowatt-hours (kWh) or 3.6 Gigajoules (GJ) of energy. While it sounds abstract, here is what one single MWh can accomplish:
- Single Family Home: Powers an average home for roughly 1 to 1.5 months.
- Electric Vehicle Charging: Charges approximately 13 to 16 Tesla Model 3s with standard 60 kWh battery packs.
- LED Lighting: Keeps a standard 10W LED bulb illuminated continuously for 100,000 hours (over 11 years).
- Industrial Baking: Bakes approximately 15,000 loaves of bread in commercial convection ovens.
Power vs. Energy: MW vs. MWh
A frequent point of confusion is the distinction between power (Megawatts, MW) and energy (Megawatt-hours, MWh):
